Peel Police’s Cyber Academy 

 Peel Regional Police’s Crime Prevention Services is once again offering the highly successful Cyber Academy* for residents of Peel. The Academy is delivered over four consecutive Thursday nights (April 8, 15, 22 and 29) and teaches parents, educators and other professionals how to identify and avoid being victimized by identity theft, on-line luring and a host of other topics. While the Academy is offered free of charge, space is limited to forty (40) seats, on a first-come/first-served basis. Lectures include:

  • Computer Safety; passwords, firewalls, viruses, spam, phishing.
  • Technological Crime; wireless routers, latest technological developments, emerging trends and risks.
  • Child Exploitation; child pornography, on-line luring, social networking, cyberdating.
  • "...at the click of a mouse..."; cyber-bullying using digital mediums. 
  • "Unlocking the Secrets" cyber-fraud; how identities are stolen.  
  • "Do You Know Where Your Children Are?" can you trust the internet? How cyber-paedophiles target/identify/track young victims on-line.

Due to some of the subject matter, this academy is available only to those who are eighteen years of age or older.

* Please note that it is required that participants attend all four (4) sessions to receive a certificate.
